2018 GHSA: Progress and Impact of U.S. Government Investments

An infectious disease threat anywhere can be a threat everywhere. In today’s interconnected world, a pathogen can travel around the globe to major cities in as little as 36 hours.

Under the Global Health Security Agenda, the United States has invested $1 billion to assist in building country capacities across 11 key technical areas, which has contributed to the earlier detection of infectious disease threats, prevention of avoidable outbreaks and further spread, and the rapid and effective response to new outbreaks.
